Unconditional Praise

Some among the crowds who gathered to greet Jesus must have come out of curiosity. Many wanted to see the Man who had performed miracles and raised Lazarus from the dead. Others thought He might lead a revolt and overthrow Roman rule.

Philip emerged from the crowd, asking Andrew to arrange for some Greek visitors to meet Jesus. They must have been surprised by how Jesus responded. Instead of talking about power, He explained that a grain of wheat must fall into the earth and die so it could bear much fruit. He talked not about privilege, might, or a political movement, but about being a servant (vs. 20-26).

So, what of the crowds? The Bible explains that Jesus “knew all men” and “knew what was in man” (John 2:23-25). He knew that some would follow when everything was going right—when nothing difficult was demanded. But who would follow when times were tough…when sacrifices were required…when they faced problems?

Even today, many are “fair weather Christians,” praising Him when everything’s going well, but running away in tough times. Yet some truly have surrendered their lives to Jesus. They honor Him as Lord, no matter what they’re going through. They’re like Job, who said, “Though He slay me, I will hope in Him” (Job 13:15).

On this Palm Sunday, enter into joyous praise. But don’t just praise Jesus today—make it a lifestyle. Praise Him in the morning! At night! At home and work!

Make Jesus your Lord. Commit your life to Him. Seek first His Kingdom. Trust in Him, in every situation.
