Trusting God to Fulfill Your Dreams

Trusting God to fulfill your dreams means believing, like Joseph, that He will accomplish His plans in His perfect time.

“When they saw him from a distance, and before he came closer to them, they plotted against him to put him to death. They said to one another, ‘Here comes this dreamer!’”—Genesis 37:18–19 NASB

“Joseph had a dream” (v. 5). It was a dream that changed history … and his life. But when they heard his dream, his brothers became angry, failing to recognize that God had given it. After receiving a second dream, Joseph again turned to his family. This time, he was even “rebuked” by his father (v. 10).

Joseph’s brothers wanted nothing to do with him or his dreams, and they ended up selling him to a “caravan of Ishmaelites” bound for Egypt (vs. 25–28). Joseph must wondered: Why had he been betrayed? What did his dreams mean? Would they ever be fulfilled?

In Egypt, Joseph encountered others who had dreams. Unlike his brothers, he knew that dreams could be real, and the Lord could interpret them and bring them to pass. During the trials he faced, Joseph learned that no man can eradicate a God-inspired dream.

Today, God still inspires dreams in the hearts of His people. Although these dreams may seem beyond our comprehension, He knows the real meaning and can bring about their fulfillment.

Has God given you dreams? You may not understand their meaning at first, but God can give you the interpretation. Call on Him. Ask Him for understanding. Seek to be faithful and obedient. Others may question or doubt you, but if God has given you a dream, you can trust Him to bring it to pass—in His time and way.
