The Price of Unfaithfulness

The Bible provides three reasons why Saul experienced judgment. First, he spared Amalek. He thought he had good reason for his actions, but God found him guilty of disobedience.

Second, Saul wasn’t faithful to keep God’s Word. Samuel had given him specific directions regarding the offering of sacrifices to God (1 Samuel 13). But when external circumstances presented difficulties, Saul decided not to stay true to what he had been told. Instead, he reinterpreted these directions and wasn’t willing to do what God asked.

Third, Saul decided to consult a medium. He knew this was wrong, but he had fallen so far that he even was willing to abandon his faith in God.

Some people think that they could never fall to these same kinds of temptations. But we must remember that Saul fell in spite of having every advantage. He was king. He had abundant resources. He was called by God. The prophet Samuel was available to provide Godly counsel to him. Yet Saul failed. And, if he failed, each of us could, too.

Today, it’s more important than ever that you submit your life to God and His Word. Base your life on the Bible. Others may try to tell you what they think it means, to satisfy their own interests. Don’t be like them. Read the Word. Know the Word. Make it the basis of your life. Believe it. Every word is true! Make sure that you seek first God’s Kingdom. Be faithful in all He has shown you to do. Stay faithful to Him in every situation. He will bless you, guide you, and sustain you.
