Some people approach their work with a highly casual manner. They take their time doing their jobs or responding to requests. They are more concerned with their own interests than with their assignments or the goals of their employers. They aren’t sensitive to the needs of their supervisors. We might say they are lazy.

Some are the opposite. Proverbs describes them as being “skilled” in everything they do. The Hebrew word here is derived from a word used to describe liquids that flow easily. It suggests acting promptly, taking action as quickly as possible to move toward a desired goal.

These proficient people have a positive attitude toward their lives and their gifts. They work efficiently; they don’t rush unnecessarily, but they are prompt in attacking assignments and completing their work. They develop skills that help them stand out. They are particularly appreciated by the authorities in their lives, who learn that these people are trustworthy and always do their best.

Think about these patterns as you approach your life. Seek to be trustworthy and faithful. Be the kind of person who works with skill and excellence. Remember the Biblical principle that “whatever you do, do all to the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31). This applies to everything in life.

Be a person who works hard, who seeks to be a good example and a witness to others. Demonstrate how Christ has changed your life. Bring glory to God.
