Seeking God’s Wisdom

“The beginning of wisdom is: Acquire wisdom; and with all your acquiring, get understanding.” Proverbs 4:7 NASB

It was a turning point in history. On December 17, 1903, after years of experiments, Wilbur and Orville Wright actually flew in their plane, the “Flyer.” This first flight lasted just twelve seconds, covering 120 feet. They flew three more flights that day, but the longest lasted 59 seconds, covering 852 feet.

Only five men from the surrounding area witnessed these first real flights. While the brothers knew what they had achieved, few others grasped the implications.

Most people in their hometown of Dayton, Ohio, doubted the flight had taken place. Some thought it was just a fluke. The newspaper’s city editor showed no interest: “Fifty-seven seconds? If it had been fifty-seven minutes, then it might have been a news item.”
Photographs of the flight were received with indifference or skepticism. A Paris newspaper concluded that the whole thing was a “fabrication.”

These skeptics did not realize that the Wright brothers had discovered the basic principles of flying. While only flying for short distances, they had proven that flying was possible. They knew how to fly. Soon, their discoveries would change transportation, leading to vast changes throughout society.

Learning fundamental principles is critical to success in every endeavor. In business and education. Science and the arts. Architecture and relationships. In our spiritual lives, learning Biblical principles leads to breakthroughs and triumphs. They teach us how to receive God’s blessings and favor. How He can multiply our efforts, and give us innovative ideas. How He can help us see the world in new ways, and help us see solutions to problems.

The Bible urges us to remember the importance of learning God’s principles. Seeking His wisdom. Basing our lives on His Word, knowing that this is how to build a solid foundation in every area of our lives.

As you study God’s Word, ask Him to reveal more of His wisdom to you.

Prayer: Father, I seek to learn more of Your truth. Open my eyes that I may understand Your Word more clearly. Guide me. Give me Your wisdom. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
