Remembering the Lamb: Honoring God at Passover

As your Passover offering reminds us, honoring God at Passover points us back to Jesus—the Lamb whose blood brings freedom, deliverance, and victory.

“In this manner you shall eat it. … It is the LORD’S Passover. […] This day shall be for you a memorial day, and you shall keep it as a feast to the LORD; throughout your generations, as a statute forever” (Exodus 12:11, 14).

The celebration of Passover begins today at sundown. To many Christians, Passover may not seem important. However the Bible reaches a different conclusion.

It was the Lord’s Passover, and He commanded that it be celebrated.

That first Passover, the Jews in Egypt killed a lamb and put some of its blood on the doorposts and lintel of each house. Why? Because God was about to bring judgment on the land. However, if God’s people obeyed Him and kept His Passover, He promised protection and deliverance.

This ordinance is filled with symbolism: The lamb was a symbol of Jesus, who became our Passover Lamb (1 Corinthians 5:7). He died, so we could be delivered, our sins could be forgiven, and we could receive the power of God.

Passover is one of God’s appointed times. It’s a time when He commands us to bring Him a special offering, and if we obey Him, He promises special blessings.

Ask God to make Passover real for you. Honor Him by remembering His Passover and bringing Him a special offering. Remember that when Jesus broke bread with the disciples during their Passover celebration, He became your Passover Lamb when His body was broken, and His blood was shed for you.

You are forgiven! He offers you freedom, deliverance, and victory!
