Riches or Righteousness?

To the world, success is measured by “riches”—possessions and resources, the money we can amass, recognition, power, and pleasure. Yet life constantly demonstrates that none of these last. Even so, people still crave more of these, somehow feeling that “things” will answer their problems.

At the same time, many think it’s unrealistic to try to follow Jesus and foolish to focus on spiritual things or God’s Kingdom. But the Bible tells us that all of us will eventually discover that “riches do not profit in the day of wrath.” When we really need help, we’ll discover that they “won’t help” (NLT).

In contrast, God offers the help we need and gives us rewards that really last. In fact, He offers us spiritual riches that we can enjoy in this life and into eternity. He promises joy and peace, satisfaction and fulfillment.

God gives us the ability to enjoy our possessions. We can have peace knowing that He is with us in every situation. He also promises to provide for our every need (Philippians 4:19). And He desires that we “prosper” (3 John 1:2).

But you have a role to play in receiving these blessings, for God looks to see what you do with the resources you’ve been given. You will Reap what you Sow, and you determine how much you Sow and whether it’s Sown into Good Ground.

Today, ask God to give you His perspective on life. You don’t need to carry unnecessary burdens or stay bogged down by worries.

Remember the words of Jesus and don’t “worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself.” Instead, seek first God’s Kingdom and His righteousness, confident that “all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6:33-34). As you invest in His Kingdom, watch as He blesses you!
