Quarreling with God

Quarreling with God leads to frustration, but peace comes when we trust our Maker’s purpose and submit to His perfect design.

“Woe to the one who quarrels with his Maker—a piece of pottery among the other earthenware pottery pieces! Will the clay say to the potter, ‘What are you doing?’ … Woe to him who says to a father, ‘What are you fathering?’”—Isaiah 45:9–10 NASB

Who among the ancient Persians would have believed that God called their leader Cyrus to accomplish His purpose? Yet the Bible tells us this very thing: The Lord shaped Cyrus’ life to fulfill His own plans.

This example reminds us that God has a plan for each of our lives. He calls us to accomplish something special for His Kingdom. He is looking for people who are faithful to their personal call and who will trust and obey Him…even when they don’t understand what He’s doing or why He allows certain things to happen.

Many people quarrel with God and refuse to cooperate, determined to follow their own ideas and direct their own paths. Yet, as He demonstrated in the life of Cyrus, God is the potter, and we are the clay. He is our Maker, and we are His vessels. He knows what is best for us!

We have a choice: We can argue with God and insist on our own way, or we can cooperate and submit our lives to Him.

Remember that God is calling you to accomplish something specific for His Kingdom. He has equipped you with unique gifts and talents. Be faithful to His call. Trust Him and have faith in Him…even if you don’t always understand what He is doing.

Submit your life to God. Don’t quarrel with your Maker. Ask Him to help you fulfill your purpose.
