Protection and Deliverance

Tonight at sundown begins the annual celebration of Purim. This is the day set aside to commemorate the deliverance of the Jews while they were in exile in Persia.

Their situation had seemed hopeless. An edict had been given under the authority of the king that all Jews were to be killed. But thanks to Esther’s courage, the wisdom of her cousin, and God’s favor, the Jews were saved. Mordecai was exalted to a position of prominence and Haman, the man who conceived the vile plot, was hanged on the gallows he had built for Mordecai.

Purim is a special time in which Jews worldwide celebrate God’s protection and deliverance. This also is an opportunity for believers to realize how often God has protected and delivered them.

The Bible is filled with accounts of God’s deliverance. Psalm 107, for example, tells of many of the times He delivered His people because “His mercy endures forever.” He had many troubles, but the psalmist said, “Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble; He delivered them out of their distresses… He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.”

Today, if you have needs, cry out to God and seek His help. Always remember all the ways that He has delivered and protected you in the past. You still can trust Him. He is faithful, and His promises are true. Allow God to help you rejoice and have peace. In the world there may be moments of uncertainty, but He promises victory for those who trust in Him.
