Promises Fulfilled

Keeping a promise is like “a major deposit.” This principle was taught to millions of people by author and business consultant Stephen R. Covey.

Covey, who died earlier this year, encouraged people to think of their words and actions as an investment. Through in-depth analysis of countless personal and business interactions, Covey discovered that we only really believe people who keep their promises. He realized that every time we keep a promise, others gain confidence in us. They know that our words are important to us and that we take our commitments seriously.

But the opposite also is true. Breaking a promise is like a “major withdrawal.” In fact, those who don’t keep their word find that others won’t believe their promises.

Covey encouraged people to understand the impact of their habits and then form positive habits like keeping promises: “By making and keeping promises to ourselves and others, little by little, our honor becomes greater than our moods.”

These practical principles point us back to the timeless truths in God’s Word, which teaches that we’re to speak the truth (Ephesians 4:25) and let our “yes” be “yes” and our “no” be “no” (Matthew 5:37).

God demonstrated the faithfulness of His promises when He sent Jesus into the world. In fact, Christmas is an incredible reminder that God is faithful to carry out every one of His promises. Through the birth and ministry of Jesus, we see how Old Testament prophecies were fulfilled with precise detail.

In your life, remember that God’s promises are true—and they are true for you. Today, and throughout your life, remember that you can count on Him. He keeps His promises forever!
