Opposition for Effective Work

Inspiration MinistriesBy Inspiration Ministries3 Minutes

“I will stay on at Ephesus until Pentecost, because a great door for effective work has opened to me, and there are many who oppose me.” 1 Corinthians 16:8-9 NIV

How wonderful to be a Believer! To know that our sins are forgiven! That we have peace with God! That He has prepared a Heavenly home for us. That we can have a personal relationship with Him, and serve Him!

Sometimes we can feel that, just because we are Christians, our work should be easy. But the Bible teaches that the opposite may be the case. Here, Paul realized that “a great door for effective work” had opened for him. He rejoiced in the opportunity, but recognized that this also was a cause for persistence and prayer.

When he faced opposition, it would have been easy to give up or admit defeat. But, for Paul, this was not an acceptable option. Many opposed him, but he had determined to “stay on at Ephesus until Pentecost.” He would not quit or run away. He would stay until that “effective work” was done.

Today, you may be involved in work that is “effective” for God’s Kingdom. In your personal life, your church, or business, you might have the opportunity to change lives. But do not be surprised if you face opposition. As you consider how you will respond, think about Paul’s determination and his continuing commitment to his calling, regardless of circumstances.

Whatever you face, never give up. Continue to be faithful to the work God has called you to do. Believe Him for protection, blessing, and favor. Don’t give in to doubt or discouragement. Keep focusing on God. Declare His promises to be true for you. Stand firm. Move forward in faith, remembering Pauls’ words: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:9).

Prayer: Father, I pray that You would open up great doors in which effective work can be done for Your Kingdom. Help me to persevere when I face opposition. Thank You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
