Nothing Less Than Your Best for God

Nothing less than your best for God reflects a heart that values Him, which means offering your finest in every act of worship and service.

“You shall not offer to the LORD what is bruised or crushed, or torn or cut.”—Leviticus 22:24 NKJV

On a recent game show, contestants were asked what they thought was the average amount given in a church offering. The answer most often given was $5. This answer points to a lack of understanding about God’s Word and the giving of our tithes and offerings.

As the Israelites prepared to give their offerings, God knew some might be tempted to offer animals of inferior quality and value. But they needed to realize that their offerings demonstrated what was truly important to them, how well they understood God’s Word, and how much they valued their relationship with Him.

God wanted them to give Him their best all the time.

This same principle applies to us. It’s tempting to cut corners and do just enough. In the bustle of the Christmas season, it can be easy to perform superficial acts of devotion to God without really giving Him our best.

However, everything changes when we remember that God looks at our hearts and He deserves the absolute best we have in everything we do.

We also should recognize that our offerings to God indicate what we expect from Him. Some offer as little as possible, expecting little in return. We often forget that He’s our Creator—the One to whom we owe everything.
