What would you do if you had the opportunity to start again? What mistakes would you like to correct? What opportunities would you like to face anew? What decisions would you like to reverse?

We ponder questions like these at the end of a year as we look back at the past, thinking about what we’ve said, done, or failed to do. We can be filled with questions and uncertainty, or guilt, worry, and doubt. Sometimes we are burdened with sin and need to get things right with God.

No matter who we are or what we’ve done, the Bible gives us this glorious promise: In Christ, every one of us can be a new creation. Not partially new, but totally new.

Because of Jesus, everything changes. No matter what has happened in our lives, no matter how many mistakes we’ve made, no matter how many disappointments and questions we’re facing, all “old things have passed away.” In Christ, everything becomes new.

Even if we’re plagued with problems and our hearts are filled with uncertainty, we still can have the slate wiped clean. As we end this year, we can leave our burdens behind and start over again, new in Christ. No matter how many years we’ve been Christians, we still need to allow all the “old things” in our lives to pass away.

God is ready to take away our fears and anxieties, and forgive us of our sins. In fact, He wants to separate us from our mistakes and sins “as far as the east is from the west” (Psalm 103:12).

Today, let God cause old things to pass away in your life. Remember: You are a new creation in Christ!
