New Beginnings

Daily Devotional2 Minutes

Rosh Hashanah reminds us that new beginnings with God are possible when we pause, reflect, and realign our hearts to His will.

“The seventh month on the first of the month you shall have a rest, a reminder by blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation. You shall not do any laborious work, but you shall present an offering by fire to the LORD”—Leviticus 23:24–25 NASB

Today at sundown begins the celebration of Rosh Hashanah, the start of the Jewish year. This inaugurates a 10-day period which ends on the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur).

Rosh Hashanah is not a manufactured holiday, but one of God’s holy days. He designed it, instituted it, and commanded it. The Lord directed that His people cease their normal activities to take time to think about their lives. No one was to work—and no one was exempt. Each person also had to present a special offering.

This remains an important day on God’s calendar. It reminds us that He’s serious about the condition of our hearts and lives. He offers each of us the opportunity for a fresh start. We begin by cleansing our hearts and confessing our sins, removing anything that blocks the flow of His blessings.

This is a day for asking questions: What are our priorities? What habits have we allowed? Are there any ways we’ve become polluted by compromise? How committed are we to serving God? Are we eager to have a deeper walk with Him?

Rosh Hashanah is an opportunity for you to examine your life, priorities, goals, and influences. This is the time for a fresh start. Seek a new level of commitment to God. Enter new depths in your relationship with Him. Accept the overflowing blessings He’s promised for you.

Don’t let this opportunity pass you by!

Reflection Question: What is God inviting you to release so that you can begin again?

Prayer
