Learn to Walk by Faith

God promised Abraham blessings beyond his comprehension. He would make him into a great nation, and make his name great. Later, He promised that his descendants would be more numerous than the stars (Genesis 15:5). How excited Abraham must have been to receive such promises!

Yet Abraham did not know that these promises would not be fulfilled for many years. Before they were fulfilled, he had to leave his country and move to a land where he was a stranger. He had to go through trials and spend years without a son to carry on his name.

This was to be a journey of faith. He had to trust God every step of the way. The Bible tells us that, “By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance.” That He went out “not knowing where he was going” (Hebrews 11:8).

But God was faithful, and eventually fulfilled every promise. At the end of his life, it could be said, “the Lord had blessed Abraham in all things” (Genesis 24:1).

Often, we can get discouraged when God’s promises aren’t immediately fulfilled. It can be easy to give up, or doubt God. But having faith means believing even when there is no visible evidence (Hebrews 11:1). It means trusting God and His promises, regardless of what we see with our eyes.

As you look into the future, remember that you, too, need to walk by faith. Learn to trust God completely, and never give up hope. Continue to believe and have faith in Him.
