Jesus’ Example

Jesus’ Example

Jesus had fed 5,000 men. His disciples weren’t just observers; they had actually participated in the miracle. Then, just a short time later, they faced a similar situation with a crowd numbering 4,000. After pointing out the problem, Jesus gave the disciples an opportunity to act.

But they responded with a question: “How can one satisfy these people with bread here in the wilderness” (v. 4)? Jesus must have been disappointed. Didn’t they learn from His earlier miracle?

Perhaps they were intimidated or afraid or just did not know what to do. In any case, they did nothing. Using the same method as He had used previously, Jesus performed another miracle and fed the 4,000.

We wonder what the disciples learned this time. What might have happened if even one of them had taken the initiative and had been bold enough to believe?

Before criticizing the disciples, we should ask ourselves if we have ever failed to put Biblical principles into practice, felt intimidated, or done nothing in the face of a challenge.

The Bible reminds us that Jesus gave us an example, so we would know what to do (John 13:15). Paul, too, reminded his readers, “Join in following my example” (Philippians 3:17).

As you face challenges, remember the examples provided by Jesus, Paul, and others. The Bible is filled with promises and principles. As He leads, be ready to step out in faith and take action.
