Humility

When faced with a crossroad, where do we turn for answers? When confronting challenges, how do we make decisions? Our choices at these times reveal our true character. What we believe. What really is important to us. In these moments, many fall back to old habits. They do what feels comfortable and react like people around them.

Many simply seek to protect their resources. Even those who believe in God can find themselves abandoning their faith in favor of what makes sense to them. But the Bible warns that God has different standards. He looks for people who always trust Him. Who believe His Word and resist compromise. He looks deeply into our hearts, especially at our pride.

The prophet Zephaniah reminds us that God looks favorably on the humble. These people can seem the most hopeless, with the fewest assets, and the least influence. Yet they are more sensitive to the things of God.

Humble people find their strength in Him and seek His wisdom. They trust Him and keep His Word. They are people after His own heart, the kind of people Jesus spoke of when He said, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me” (Luke 9:23).

Zephaniah urged his audience to “seek the Lord.” To remember that God promised to “leave among you a humble and lowly people” (Zephaniah 3:12). Today, humble yourself before God. Seek His forgiveness for any sins in your life. And dedicate yourself to serving Him. Make your life a living sacrifice.
