Hidden and Secret

Some truths are “hidden” and even “secret.” Many important things are not obvious. But why are these things hidden? “To be revealed” to those who seek understanding. Jesus taught the importance of how we listen. We must use the ears God gave us.

He gave this teaching immediately after telling the parable of the sower. Giving insights into His method, Jesus explained, “He was teaching them many things in parables” packed with deeper meanings and spiritual insights (v. 2). But the full truths of these parables often were not obvious.

If they wanted to understand, it wasn’t enough just to hear. He warned them, “Take care what you listen to” (v. 24). Pay attention. Be careful listeners.

He said they would be rewarded based on their efforts. Did they want to know more? Did they really want to understand? His message was this: “By your standard of measure it will be measured to you; and more will be given you besides” (v. 24).

Jesus promised greater rewards based on their responses. He also provided insights to those who asked. Some just listened casually, never really seeking to understand deeper truths. But He would unlock deeper meaning to those who showed initiative (v. 10).

Life is full of mysteries and secrets. But God is ready to reward you and give you a greater understanding. He will reveal things that are hidden. Listen carefully. Ask Him for wisdom and discernment. Show initiative.
