Healing the Brokenhearted

“When he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, the Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives.” Luke 4:17-18 KJV

Turning to the writings of Isaiah, Jesus read the ancient prophecy that He had been called to heal the “brokenhearted.” The Greek word here means to crush, shatter, or break into pieces. This is the way many people feel. Crushed by burdens or problems. Shattered by physical or emotional needs. Broken by conflicts and pressures.

In all of these situations, Jesus came to provide healing. Meaningful change. Real answers.

The world is filled with people who are brokenhearted, particularly true during the Christmas season. Millions suffer from depression and loneliness. Many feel broken down, that their lives are in pieces. Others feel oppressed, as if they were being trampled on. Some feel worn down, confused, or shattered, while others may be overwhelmed by grief or disappointment.

But Jesus came to heal every kind of brokenness. He can soothe anguished souls. He can comfort those feeling pain or loss. He can repair the damage from harsh words. He can forgive us, and make us clean inside and whole again.

Today, are you discouraged? Tired and worn out? Worried? Afraid about your future? Concerned about your finances? Burdened about finances or health? No matter what you face, the Bible confirms that Jesus is ready to help! To provide healing. To meet every need. He came to restore you, encourage you, and give you joy, peace, and an abundant life.

Do not allow the world to crush you, or be overwhelmed by problems. Focus on Jesus. Praise and worship Him. Commit your needs to Him. And declare His promises to be true for you. He will give you hope, and bring light to any darkness in your life.

Prayer: Father, I pray that You would heal my heart and restore my soul. Thank You for sending Jesus that the brokenhearted might be healed. I praise and worship You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
