God’s Gift of Music

God’s Gift of Music shows us that music is God’s gift, meant to fill every space of our lives and hearts with joyful worship and thanksgiving.

“From the outside to the inner gate were chambers for the singers in the inner courtyard.”—Ezekiel 40:44 NASB

In Ezekiel’s vision, there was a place in the temple designed just for musicians. There were “chambers for the singers” extending “from the outside to the inner gate.” We have a sense that worship music was everywhere.

This picture reminds us how important music is to God—music of thanksgiving, praise, worship, God, and His truth.

The Bible is filled with the admonition to worship God through music. We are told that “all who take refuge in You” are to “rejoice” and “sing for joy” (Psalm 5:11). God’s people are to “sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High” (Psalm 7:17).

Heaven itself is filled with music. There we will hear “a new song,” declaring how the Lamb is worthy (Revelation 5:9); 144,000 “sang a new song” (Revelation 14:3); and all who were victorious over the beast “sang the song of Moses” (Revelation 15:3).

In a document from 1538, Martin Luther wrote: “With all my heart I would extol the precious gift of God in the noble art of music.” God has given “this precious gift” to remind us that we “are created to praise and magnify the Lord.”

We see how the world often uses music for its own purposes, but God created music, and its primary role is to praise and worship Him.

Today, remember that God gave you music, so you could praise His name. Worship Him!
