God’s Abundance

The world seems dominated by lust. One dictionary defines “lust” as “uncontrolled or illicit desire or appetite. A passionate or overmastering desire or craving.” Lust drives us to be consumed by obsessions with things and experiences.

Lust can be a powerful temptation. It can lead us away from God and into sin (James 1:14-15). John reminds us that we are not to “love the world nor the things in the world.” He warns that lustful passions are not from God; we must not be controlled by these desires and cravings.

We also should realize that lust stems from Satan distorting God’s Word and spreading confusion. As the Bible makes clear, God always has desired to bless His people and meet their every need. Even more, as He showed in the Garden of Eden, He wants us to have abundance. In fact, the Bible promises that “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him” (1 Corinthians 2:9 NLT).

But Satan constantly tries to twist God’s Word and deceive us. He wants us to doubt God’s goodness and be consumed with our own lust, to embrace the wrong attitudes and never experience the blessings God has prepared.

In your life, be on guard against lust. Never forget that God desires to bless you! Keep the right priorities, and always seek first His Kingdom. Be faithful with the resources you’ve been given.

Remember: God loves you. He sent Jesus that you might have life and have it more abundantly.
