Generous

A well-known cliché says that when we die, “The person with the most toys wins.” Many people live according to this principle. They spend their time and resources accumulating things.

But the Bible reminds us that “when good things increase, those who consume them increase. So what is the advantage to their owners except to look on?” (Ecclesiastes 5:11)

God has given us a different pattern—principles that really work and lead to satisfaction. Instead of collecting “things” for ourselves, the Bible tells us that blessings and prosperity come to those who give and are generous.

Jesus stressed this principle when He said, “Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over” (Luke 6:38).

The Bible uses the analogy of water. The act of watering means we’re giving to others out of the substance of our own lives. When we water others out of our resources, we ourselves will be watered. We’ll be blessed!

The world of agriculture teaches that the key to growth is to Sow the Seeds we’ve been given. We cannot Reap a Harvest unless we Sow. As we Sow into God’s Kingdom, we will find ourselves being blessed, often in ways that surprise us. We’ll realize that God has blessed us so we can be a blessing.

Ask God to help you become more generous. Seek to Sow into His Kingdom the resources you’ve been given. Remember: This is the path to blessing.
