Gaining God’s Perspective

What do we really do with our lives? In spite of what we might think, how do we really spend our time?

These issues were examined recently by researchers at Ball State University who studied the lives of 101 people through an entire day. These people summarized their time watching TV, listening to the radio, and other media activity in a diary. They also were interviewed on the phone.

When researchers compared the interviews with the actual behavior, they were surprised to discover the considerable differences there were between actual behavior and what people thought they did. On average, people said they spent 4.8 hours with the media daily, while they actually spent 11 hours. Quite a difference!

This research demonstrates an important truth. We all tend to think that we know what we do. That we understand ourselves, and know what is best. But God wants us to realize that our own perception is subjective, and often distorted and inaccurate.

David was wise enough to realize his limits. That he was as “nothing” before God. He knew that he needed His perception and cried out for His wisdom and help.

In your life, you can be tempted to think that you understand your own thoughts and know what is best. But the Bible urges you to remember that God knows you better than you know yourself. He wants you to have purpose, joy, and fulfillment. But first you need to commit your life to Him. To trust Him, and do things His way.

Ask God to show you His perspective on your life, and commit your plans and thoughts to Him.
