Fleeting!

Fleeting!

It can be easy to go through life, taking one event at a time. Never really thinking or planning head.

With this kind of focus, we can be dominated by individual moments. Our concerns can be the problems of the moment, the pleasures of the moment, the rewards of the moment.

This kind of short-term focus can blind us to our overall direction. The pursuit of momentary experiences can prevent us from seeing the big picture, and even the meaning of life. Then, at the end of our lives, we can look back and wonder where the time has gone.

David prayed that God would open his eyes to change all of this. He had realized that each moment ultimately is meaningless outside of His overall purpose. David asked Him to help him have the right perspective. To realize that life is short, and to “know how fleeting my life is.” His prayer was that God would show him His purpose in each moment.

Only at the end of their lives do many people realize their mistakes, and how they have wasted opportunities. The ways they have pursued the wrong goals. How often they have been occupied with thoughts and actions that did not matter.

The Bible urges us to remember that life is fleeting. Pleasures may last only a moment, but so will the difficulties. To know true meaning and fulfillment, we must live for God. This means committing our lives to Him, and letting Him direct each step, in every moment.

Today, ask God to give you His perspective on your life. Seek His guidance to spend your time and energy on things that matter, not just now but into eternity. Seek His vision for your life and the goals that He has given you. And trust Him to give your life purpose and meaning.
