Finding Your Way in Jesus

Daily Devotional2 Minutes

Life’s biggest questions find their true answer in Jesus—the way, the truth, and the life.

“I have seen all the works which have been done under the sun, and behold, all is futility and striving after wind.”—Ecclesiastes 1:14 NASB

In his quest to find meaning, French artist Paul Gauguin became disenchanted with Western civilization and sought answers in Polynesia. But he discovered it was no Utopia. Facing ongoing unhappiness, he eventually moved to an even more remote island where he built a home called The House of Pleasure. He died there alone two years later.

Many considered Gauguin’s masterpiece to be his 1897 painting Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going? He called this painting his last will and testament, contemplating “life and death told through a series of figures.” Describing it, Gauguin admitted the “sadness in my soul.” He was left asking questions, finding no real answers.

Despite becoming an influential artist, Gauguin looked for solutions in the wrong places and never found paradise on earth.

People go through different journeys to find meaning, fulfillment, peace, and joy. But the Bible tells us that no matter where we turn for earthly solutions, we’re bound to be frustrated: All this effort is nothing but “futility and striving after wind.”

Have you found lasting satisfaction and real peace and joy? Or are you frustrated? Struggling? Directionless?

Jesus said: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6). You will find your answers by following Him—today and every day.

Reflection Question: What steps are you taking to follow Jesus as the only way?
