Feeling Attacked

David felt pursued, persecuted, and troubled. He felt he had done nothing to deserve the attacks of his adversaries, for they tried to trap him without cause. False witnesses were accusing him of things he hadn’t done.

It would have been easy for David to strike out at these adversaries. To feel afraid. To be discouraged or defensive. But instead he turned to God, humbling himself and looking to Him for help. Instead of worrying about his accusers, he praised God: “I will give You thanks in the great congregation; I will praise You among a mighty throng.” This praise changed his attitude and gave him a new focus. He gained confidence and strength as he turned to the Lord and trusted Him to fight his battles.

How do you react when you’re attacked or accused? Do you react with anger or seek revenge? Or do you turn to God and seek Him in every situation? Like David, realize that God is your shield and buckler, willing and able to deal with those who persecute you.

Today, if others gossip, attack, or make accusations against you, do not focus on them. Instead, start praising God. Commit your situation to Him. Trust in Him to defend you and make things right. You can depend upon Him.
