Faithful Sowing, Patient Waiting

Faithful sowing, patient waiting. Galatians 6 encourages believers to keep sowing faithfully, trusting that in due season God brings a harvest at the right time as we learn patience, perseverance, and reliance on Him.

“Whatever one sows, that will he also reap. … Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:7–9).

How tempting it must be for farmers to look anxiously out at their fields after the land has been prepared and their seeds are sown before there is yet any evidence of growth, fruit, or harvest. For all of us, it’s difficult to wait and easy to ask questions or wonder about God’s provision.

But farmers understand that their responsibility is simply to prepare the soil and plant seeds at the right time and in the right way. To reap a harvest, they cannot hold their seeds in their hands—the first step is to release the seeds and sow them into the ground.

Farmers must then wait patiently for their season of harvest, trusting in God that if they’ve faithfully planted and watered their seeds, it’s only a matter of time before they reap a harvest.

This picture of seedtime and harvest applies to every area of our lives—mental, physical, financial, and spiritual. Yet even if we know these principles, it still can be difficult to wait. We can become frustrated if we expect to receive our rewards immediately and our harvests instantly.

Remember that God has a “due season” for each of us—a time to reap our harvest of blessings.

Be faithful with the resources God has given you. Keep sowing seeds into His Kingdom, so you can reap an abundant harvest at the right time in the right season.
