Determined

Are you determined to be mighty? Be bold in your pursuit of God.

“After him was Eleazar … one of the three mighty men with David … He rose up and struck the Philistines until his hand was weary … and the LORD brought about a great victory that day.”—2 Samuel 23:9–10 NASB

How did a person become one of the “mighty men” of Israel? Others were honored for bravery or for achieving great things. Yet some did extraordinary things that earned them the distinction of being “mighty.”

Eleazar was honored because he was bold and fearless, willing to stand up against their enemies even under adverse conditions, facing dangers and risks.

Although this was not an easy challenge, he showed relentless determination and “rose up and struck the Philistines until his hand was weary.” Eleazar threw himself into the battle. Nothing could make him stop. He stayed on the job until the task was accomplished. Because of his determination, “the Lord brought about a great victory.”

If you want to be mighty in God’s sight, simply apply these same principles in your life. He honors those who live by faith and trust Him, regardless of the task. He calls us to be bold and so confident in Him that we never feel defeated and aren’t intimidated by any foe. We should never give up, even if our opposition possesses massive resources.

God knows you will face opposition and problems that seem impossible to overcome. You may be weary from your efforts. You may feel alone, exhausted, and unappreciated. But in every situation, keep trusting in Him. Keep living by faith. Stay obedient, bold, and determined. And stay on guard until your assignment is complete and the victory is won.
