Completing Your Mission

A job needed to be done. And God called Ezekiel to do it.

He was called to create a kind of model, portraying Jerusalem on a clay tablet. Then he was to “lay siege” against this model, complete with a siege wall, camps around the city, and battering rams. This was to be “a sign to the house of Israel.”

As a further sign, he was to lie on his left side, and then on his right. Through these actions, Ezekiel was to remind them of the sins they had committed, and the resulting judgment.

This task was so important that God “restrained” Ezekiel until the work was finished. God didn’t want him to waver in his commitment or to be influenced by the reaction of other people. He was to be faithful “until you have finished the days of your siege” (NIV).

This is the kind of commitment God wants from us. Many promise to follow Him and do His will, but fail to keep their promises. Some have good intentions, but become tired and weary. Some become distracted or discouraged. Some give up or decide to pursue other goals.

But God wants people who are committed to complete their assignments. He looks for people who hear His voice and obey Him. Who are sensitive to His will and are eager to focus on the assignment He has prepared for them. People committed to His Kingdom. Who do not become distracted. Who are persistent and faithful.

Jesus taught of the importance of commitment when He said, “No one, after putting his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God” (Luke 9:62).

In your life, stay focused on the assignments God has given you. Don’t allow distractions to keep you from serving Him.
