Chosen for a Purpose

In “Chosen for a Purpose,” the casting of lots in 1 Chronicles 24 reveals how God assigns every believer a meaningful role, regardless of age, background, or status.

“The sons of the Levites … cast lots, just as their brothers the sons of Aaron, in the presence of King David, Zadok, Ahimelech, and the heads of fathers’ houses of the priests and of the Levites” (1 Chronicles 24:30–31).

To determine assignments for the Levites, the Israelites cast lots. From a human perspective, this process removed the possibility of discrimination or preferential treatment. Everyone was treated the same. The underlying assumption was that God would direct the outcome. There was no preference based on age or any other qualification. All cast lots, and every person was part of this impartial process.

This system reminds us that God has a plan for every life and that all of us are special in His sight. Unfortunately, some people simply don’t feel worthy. Others conclude that God could never use them. Some think they don’t have the right training or background while others feel they’re too young or too old.

But the Bible teaches that each person has an individual calling and assignment from God. He has given each of us unique gifts and talents. No one is excluded! The key is whether we’re willing to trust Him and be faithful and obedient.

Remember that God has a call on your life. He knows you by name, and you are special in His sight. He has given you unique gifts, abilities, and resources. Don’t hide them, but welcome the opportunity to serve the Lord and invest what you’ve been given into His Kingdom. You’ve been blessed so that you can bless others. No matter your age or station in life, remain faithful. God wants to use you!
