Breathless Blessings

Daily Devotional2 Minutes

“When the queen of Sheba had seen the wisdom of Solomon, the house which he had built, the food at his table, the seating of his servants, the attendance of his ministers and their attire, his cupbearers and their attire, and his stairway by which he went up to the house of the LORD, she was breathless.”—2 Chronicles 9:3–4 NASB

Why did the queen of Sheba and her large entourage travel hundreds of miles to visit Jerusalem? The Bible tells us she was motivated by curiosity.

She had heard of Solomon’s fame and decided to learn more herself. She wanted to hear his wisdom for herself, to pick his brain about problems she faced, or questions she might have had on a wide range of subjects. Having traveled such a long distance, she wanted to speak about everything on her mind.

In this dialogue, she must have peppered him with questions. “Solomon answered all her questions; nothing was hidden from Solomon which he did not explain to her.” (v. 2). She was dazzled by the kingdom he ruled. The cumulative effect of these experiences and observations left her “breathless.”

It can be easy to marvel at the way Solomon must have impressed this queen. But all his blessings were gifts from God. His kingdom was characterized by peace, riches, and beauty.

Remember, you serve the same God who so abundantly blessed Solomon. He is ready to give you His wisdom, to make you stand out so others will come to you and ask for your help.

Remember that God has blessed you, so you can bless others. Share the gifts and resources you have been given. Be a testimony to His greatness, and point people to Him. Bring Him glory.
