Bless the Lord

In the midst of our busy schedules, it’s easy to become preoccupied…work and family…finances and relationships…world conditions and personal problems. In fact, we can be so overwhelmed with these matters that we forget the most important thing in our lives: our relationship with God!

The Psalmist reminds us to stop what we’re doing and remember the Lord and all that He’s done for us. He addresses “all servants of the Lord,” people who knew and served God. However, he implies that their lives had become so busy that they had forgotten to bless the name of the Lord. So the Psalmist invites and even commands them to stop everything, focus on Him, and bless Him!

How? By lifting up their hands. Lifting our hands is an act of surrender, an acknowledgment of His greatness and our submission to Him. This physical act energizes our minds and emotions, and it declares that we are His people. It is an act of worship.

Blessing God helps us keep our priorities right and our focus fixed on Him. It reminds us that He made heaven and earth, and that we depend upon Him for all the blessings of life. Blessing Him puts us in a position to experience even more of His blessings.

Today, don’t let anything keep you from blessing the Lord! Lift up your hands and voice! Tell of His goodness, and share His love with everyone. Dedicate your life to Him. Make an offering of praise to His name. He is worthy!
