Ancient Landmarks

So often young people are eager to chart their own course. Many grow weary of hearing the advice of older generations, and want to think for themselves. To be like Rehoboam who rejected the counsel of his experienced advisors and followed the ideas of his young friends (1 Kings 12).

However, the Bible reminds us of the importance of recognizing the “ancient landmarks” in our lives. To realize the wisdom we can learn from those who have gone before us and those with experience. To appreciate the valuable insights and warnings they can provide. These landmarks include sign posts provided by previous generations that can help us recognize critical moments and know the right way to go.

The Bible reminds us God wants us to succeed in everything we do. He desires that we experience victory and receive abundant blessings on our families, businesses, churches, finances, relationships, and personal life. He has new things to teach us and wants us to develop a personal relationship with Him.

But we are warned not to forget about learning from the experience of others, both their successes and failures. What led to victory and defeat. To get their advice, to help us stay alert to traps and minefields. Not to ignore what they have learned.

Learning from ancient landmarks is essential if we are to avoid the mistakes others have made, and do the things that can lead to success.

Today, ask God to help you recognize the “ancient landmarks” that impact your life. Have an attitude of reverence and respect toward others. Develop humility. Remember the Biblical principle that “the way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but he who heeds counsel is wise” (Proverbs 12:15).

Remember that being humble, and learning from others, can help you live victoriously. Seek to apply these principles in your life!
