An Atonement Offering

Today at sundown begins Rosh Hashanah, the beginning of the Jewish year. This inaugurates a ten-day period that ends on the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur). This time of celebration was instituted by God, who wanted His people to think about their lives, and focus on Him.

As part of this day, each person was to present to the Lord an “offering by fire.” The fire was an indication that the offering had been purified. It was to be holy. Their very best. They were to make this offering to help them remember that they depended on God. But also to make sure to focus on Him and keep Him first. To demonstrate their gratefulness for all that He had done for them, and remember His promises for their future.

Today, God offers you the opportunity for a new beginning. Start by cleansing your heart and confessing your sins, worries, and problems to Him. Are there things blocking the flow of His blessings? Are you troubled by burdens, anxieties, or worry? Do you want a deeper walk with God? Have you allowed sin or bad habits to grab a hold in your life? Are you living for Him?

In your life, remember how much God loves you and all the promises He has made. All the riches and blessings He has promised in His Word.

Dedicate your time, talent, and treasure to Him. Lay your burdens at His feet. And bring Him your atonement offering. Then start celebrating. Live in His freedom and the fullness of His Spirit. Let this be a day of new beginnings!
