A Lifestyle of Daily Thanksgiving

God calls us to a lifestyle of daily thanksgiving. We are to offer God sincere praise each day, not living off yesterday’s thankfulness.

“Now as for the flesh of the sacrifice of his thanksgiving peace offerings, it shall be eaten on the day of his offering; he shall not leave any of it over until morning.”—Leviticus 7:15 NASB

God commanded the children of Israel to make a thanksgiving peace offering. This offering had to be made daily, and they were not to keep leftovers for the next day.

Through this commandment, God was teaching a vital principle: Being thankful must be a daily experience. We cannot coast on the past. Each day, we must remember to give Him thanks, or we can end up taking our blessings, and God, for granted.

God knows how quickly we can forget the past. What was fresh and exciting yesterday soon becomes old and boring, overlooked or forgotten.

This happens all too easily in our spiritual lives. Perhaps we seek God earnestly when we face trials and problems, then become complacent after He’s answered our prayers and met our needs. We feel so close to Him during a spiritual high but soon forget the glorious moments we spent with Him.

We can become consumed with our daily lives and stop even thinking about God. We too quickly stop reading the Word and take Him for granted, letting our love for Him grow cold.

Don’t let this happen to you! Pause to think about all that God has done for you. Remember the times He’s answered your prayers, guided you, and met your needs.

Right now, offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving. Praise Him. Thank Him. Be specific. And remember to cultivate a spirit of daily thankfulness.
