A Life of Favors

God appeared to Solomon in a dream soon after he had become king, saying, “Ask what you wish Me to give you.” Acknowledging that he was “but a little child,” Solomon asked for “an understanding heart to judge Your people to discern between good and evil.” God was pleased, promising to give him “a wise and discerning heart,” so that no one else would be like him (1 Kings 3:5-15).

One of the first opportunities Solomon had to apply this wisdom came in his relationship with Hiram, king of Tyre, who had been a “friend of David.” After Solomon requested help to build the Temple, Hiram “rejoiced greatly” and agreed to do everything he asked. Why? Because God had given Solomon favor.

God wants to give each of us this kind of favor. Solomon himself wrote, “When a man’s ways are pleasing to the LORD, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him” (Proverbs 16:7) The Bible also says that God does not withhold any good thing “from those who walk uprightly” (Psalm 84:11).

Today, do you want God’s favor in your life? He is ready to give it—in your workplace and church, your family and relationships, and even with your adversaries.

How do you gain this favor? Humble yourself before God. Submit your life to Him. Seek Him for wisdom. Walk uprightly and make your ways pleasing to the Lord. Then watch as He grants you incredible favor in all you do!
