Living the Covenant: 19 Ways to Obey God’s Word

Inspiration MinistriesBy Inspiration Ministries3 Minutes

God’s covenant blessings flow through our obedience—and He’s given us clear instructions on how to live that out with one another. These 19 “one another” responsibilities from Scripture challenge us to love more deeply, serve more generously, and walk in true faith. How many are you actively practicing?

Obedience Is Not Optional

As a believer, you know that Jesus taught you to demonstrate your commitment to Him through the things you do.

It’s not enough to merely cry out to him in confession of your sin or proclamation of your love for Him. He also instructs you to be obedient to His Word (Matthew 7:24).

If you listen, keep, and do His Word, you will receive the fulfillment of His promises and the richness of His blessings. This is the covenant He established with you.

Your Role in the Covenant

Following are 19 Covenant Responsibilities that are mentioned in the Bible. You may be familiar with some of these, but it’s worth taking a look at all of them as a self-check that you are truly being obedient to His Word.

He has asked us to:

  • Wash another’s feet (John 13:14)
  • Love one another (John 13:34)
  • Build up one another (1 Thessalonians 5:11)
  • Accept one another (Romans 15:7)
  • Admonish one another (Colossians 3:16)
  • Greet one another (Romans 16:16)
  • Serve one another (Galatians 5:13)
  • Bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2)
  • Show forbearance to one another (Ephesians 4:2)
  • Forgive one another (Colossians 3:13)
  • Be subject to one another (Ephesians 5:21)
  • Teach one another (Colossians 3:16)
  • Comfort one another (1 Thessalonians 4:18 NAS)
  • Encourage one another (1 Thessalonians 5:11)
  • Stimulate one another to love and do good deeds (Hebrews 10:24)
  • Confess our sins to one another (James 5:16)
  • Pray for one another (James 5:16)
  • Be hospitable to one another (1 Peter 4:0)
  • Be clothed with humility toward one another (1 Peter 5:5)

How Many Do You Practice?

There’s a good chance that many of you have acted on some of these some of the time; after all, most of us do at least greet one another and comfort one another.

But when was the last time you forgave someone? When’s the last time you offered to bear another’s burden? When did you last accept someone, unconditionally?

Is it time to do more on your part since He has not once stopped doing His part?
