A Boundless Love

Song of Solomon describes a powerful relationship between a man and a woman. It was a relationship of absolute commitment. Absolute love. Here we see the fulfillment of God’s words at the beginning of creation, that, “a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh” (Genesis 2:24).

But the Bible also tells us that the ideal marriage relationship is a metaphor for the relationship that God has for His people, and that Christ has for His bride.

This is a relationship of love that is demonstrated by the “desire” mentioned in Song of Solomon. It is a love so strong that God showed how much He loved us by giving “His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

Jesus described this relationship as being like a man who “has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go and search for the one that is straying?” (Matthew 18:12). This is how much He loves us. And how much He wants us to have a love relationship with Him.

We see that love in His relationship with each of us, as individuals. How eager He is to guide us. To bless us. To know Him more intimately. But this also helps us understand how much He longs to reach the Lost. Those whom He loves, but who reject Him. Even those who defy and hate Him. But do not know how much He loves them, or what they are missing.

Today, allow God to show you how much He desires a more intimate relationship with you. And seek to share that love with others.
