Labor Day Spotlight: Dr. Tony Evans

This Labor Day, we’d like to honor our pastors for the leadership and shepherding they provide to their congregations—sometimes at all hours and at cost to family time. As Dr. Tony Evans once said, “Ministry burnout is a real problem, because it’s never-ending.”

Yet ministry is a calling—one with eternal significance, where success can’t always be measured in numbers. I could say it all started for Tony Evans when he became the first African-American to earn a doctorate in theology from Dallas Theological Seminary, or when a radio show producer contacted him while he was a junior there, launching his broadcast career.

But really, it began even before that—back when he still thought he had a plan besides Dallas. Back when God sent him on his own detours to the destiny He had in mind.

Today, as a pastor, teacher, author, and speaker, Dr. Tony Evans serves the body of Christ through his unique ability to communicate complex theological truths through simple, yet profound, illustrations.
