Jesus Prayed TERRELL MURPHY: Welcome to Strengthening Your Walk! On behalf of David and Barbara Cerullo, thank you for joining me today. I’m Terrell Murphy. I really want to share from my heart today what I believe is going to strengthen you in your walk with God as we move through today but through these series of teachings that I’ve been blessed to be able to really grow through and be strengthened in my personal walk with God. Because the journey in God is tremendous, and there are so many challenges that we face. But I believe today that there is some insight that the Lord wants to give you to help you to be strengthened, and help you to move greater in those things that you’ve been called to do.
01:00:36 And it’s all centered in prayer. And how important is it to understand the value of prayer as a believer? In Luke 11, the disciples say to Jesus, “Lord, teach us how to pray.” If you really note it, it’s the only place in the Scriptures where the disciples ask Jesus to teach them anything. Now I know for me, that would have been something different. I would have been saying, “Teach me how to walk on water; teach me how to turn water to wine; teach me how to slip through the crowd.”
01:01:02 All of those type of things would have been what I would have been pursuing. But what I love about these guys is they said, “Lord, teach us to pray.” And what a request that was! Because they had watched Him do it; they had seen the results that He got from it. And therefore they were really ready to integrate this activity into their lives, but they needed help doing it. And I understand that because like many of you out there, and even as I move and progress through my time in God, I watch others pray, I listen to others pray, and then sometimes I feel like I’m just not getting the results.
01:01:34 But as I’ve made some shifts and some changes in the understanding of how I need to approach prayer, things have changed for me. And that’s what we’re going to do over the next few moments and over the next few teaching series that we have on prayer. So I’m real excited to share the principles in prayer because God’s not a respecter of persons, He’s a respecter of principles. And when we walk in the principles of God, it opens doors and unlocks doors and moves us in the greater dimensions which allow us to see fruition in our walk.
01:02:02 And man of God, woman of God, that is so important. And that is so key. Here’s one thing that we have to understand, that prayer for Jesus was a lifestyle. Simply stated, that’s what prayer is. It’s a conversation that is a part of our lifestyle in our relationship with us and God. It’s talking with God. As a matter of fact, it’s the most important conversation that you can have every single day.
01:02:25 And this is what I want you to know, my friend: God wants us to communicate with Him no matter where we are; no matter what’s going on in our lives. He wants us to come boldly to the throne of grace to fellowship with Him; to share with Him; and to talk with Him as a friend. And that’s what Jesus is. He is our friend. The disciples were blessed to be able to witness what Jesus had between He and the Father God. And it’s your time now to begin to move in a way where you are able to model the same type of relationship that Jesus and the Father God had; the same level of communication; the same level of intimacy and connectivity.
01:03:03 That’s what God wants for you, and I believe together we’re gonna be able to walk those things out and demonstrate a new you and a new dimension living a new life; getting new results and new prayers answered day in and day out. And so I’m encouraged for you. But what I’d like to do is pray with you for just this moment.
01:03:21 Lord, I thank You for those that are listening. I thank You for the power of God that is in their lives. And I thank You that You’re now stirring up the spirit of prayer, and You’re anointing them to be men and women of prayer. We believe it to be so. We call it done, and we decree and declare it in the precious and matchless name of Jesus. God Bless you, I’ll see you next time. Amen and amen.
01:03:47 [END OF VIDEO]
God desires relationship – communion and communication – with His children. He wants believers to come into His presence through prayer. As the psalmist declares: “This is the generation of those who seek Him, who seek Your face…” (Ps. 24:6) Prayer is about experiencing intimacy with God, setting apart regular time to spend with our Heavenly Father.
