Wondering If God Loves You?

Inspiration MinistriesBy Inspiration Ministries6 Minutes

If you’ve ever found yourself wondering if God loves you, this article offers a powerful reminder to stop looking to your emotions and start looking to the cross. It explores the unshakable truth of God’s love—shown not in circumstances, but in the sacrifice of Jesus—and invites you to rest in the certainty of that love, no matter where you are in life.

Don’t look to your feelings …
look to the cross.

Have you ever found yourself wondering, “Does God really love me?” Maybe it was in a hospital waiting room, clutching a bill you couldn’t pay, or after hearing the words, “We need to talk.” Doubts about God’s love often surface when life’s storms rage the loudest.

But what if we told you that God’s love isn’t a fleeting feeling or a concept tied to your circumstances? It’s a truth—unshakable, unbreakable, and undeniable. And John, the beloved disciple, knew this.

He wrote in 1 John 4:9–10: “ God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his one and only Son into the world so that we might live through him. Love consists in this: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins” (CSB).

Did you catch that? God didn’t just whisper His love from the heavens or write it in the stars. He sent it. He wrapped it in the flesh of a baby born in Bethlehem, stretched it out on a cross at calvary, and sealed it with an empty tomb.

Love That Never Fails

When you wonder if God loves you, don’t look to your feelings—they’re as unreliable as a weathervane in a storm. Look to the cross. That rugged beam of wood screams the message louder than any doubt: “You are loved—eternally, unconditionally, and immeasurably loved.”

God loved you so much that He gave His most precious treasure—His Son—to rescue you. The cross is proof. And if He went that far, is there any doubt that He loves you still, no matter where you’ve been or what you’ve done?

Here’s the astonishing part: God doesn’t just want to love you. He wants your love in return. In Hosea 6:6, He says, “For I desire steadfast love” (ESV). It’s not your perfection He’s after, but rather your affection.

Jesus called this the greatest commandment: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind” (Luke 10:27 ESV). But how do you love a God you can’t see? Start by seeing Him in the ordinary.

When you work, work as if you’re serving Jesus. When you love others, love them as if you’re loving Him. Colossians 3:23 reminds us, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, not for men.”

Growing in Love

Love is a journey, not a sprint. Just as a child grows, so does your love for God. It takes time, patience, and persistence. And while you may stumble, God never stops walking beside you.

Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 3:18 that as God’s Spirit works in you, you’ll reflect more of His glory. Piece by piece, you’ll become a masterpiece of His love.

So when doubts creep in, let them drive you back to the cross. Let them remind you of the lengths He went to just to say, “I love you.”

And as you grow in His love, you’ll discover the greatest truth of all: His love was never in question. It was always there, waiting for you to embrace it.
