Whatever You Focus on Grows

We never want to face difficulties or hardships in life, but even when we do, we can have everlasting hope if we’re “looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2). For every believer, He should be the focus in every area of our lives.

Why? Because whatever we focus on becomes magnified in our minds. Whatever we have our eyes set on gets top priority in our thoughts and actions.

That’s why an attitude of gratefulness is so paramount to having an abundant life; it takes the focus off ourselves and puts it on the Savior of our souls. It magnifies what should be magnified and gives us a focal point for our faith that leads to God’s incredible miracles and truth.

The Power of Perspective

Have you ever had a relatively small matter grow into a large issue simply because you focused on it too much? Have you ever dwelled so much on a problem that you became overcome by fear and anxiety?

We all have to some extent. But if we change our focus and set our eyes on Jesus, then we will see the faithfulness of God revealed. If we look to Him instead of looking at our problems, then our circumstances won’t seem so overwhelming after all.

God is a faithful God in every season of your life. His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:21–23). He will NEVER leave you, no matter how difficult your circumstances seem to be (Hebrews 13:5).

Flourishing in Every Season

God can turn your barren winters into fruitful springs … times of drought into abundant harvests (Genesis 26:1–14). Those who trust in Him never need to worry about the challenging circumstances of life.

Blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.
They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water.
Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought.
Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit (Jeremiah 17:7–8 NLT).

What an encouraging picture of the kind of life we can have when we’re focused on the goodness of our Savior and King. Like the virtuous woman described in Proverbs 31, we will be able to “smile at the future,” confident that God is preparing blessings and breakthroughs for us in the days ahead (v. 25 NASB).
