Where Is America in End-Time Prophecy?

Seeking to understand prophecy before it is fulfilled is speculation—perhaps educated speculation, but speculation nonetheless. Still, Jesus forewarned us about the end times so we would be able to discern the season and not be taken off guard. With this in mind, join me on a process of informed speculation.

Many claim since America is not mentioned in the Bible it will not exist during the end times. In reality the end times began with the resurrection of Jesus and continue until His return. In this sense America exists in the end times. Additionally, automobiles, the Internet, and French cuisine are not mentioned in the Bible, yet they exist. A non-mention is not a compelling argument.

Prophecies of Joel and Daniel provide us with some insight about the end times. Our interest is to learn which country is represented by the ram mentioned in Daniel 8:20, which states, “As for the ram that you saw with the two horns, these are the kings of Media and Persia.” The Middle East was once reigned by Persia and also the Ottoman Empire. Presently, Persians mostly live in Iran where the Persian language is still spoken. However, the Persia from Biblical times extended to contemporary Turkey.

While the prophet Daniel had the vision, he was at Shushan, which is the province of Elam, by the river of Ulal. (Daniel 8:2) All of these ancient places have their modern-day location in Iran and Iraq, enticing speculation that one of the two prophetically mentioned kings will come from Iran or Iraq. The Medes (people of Media) are said to be the ancestors of the Kurds, who settled east of the Zagros mountains. Since antiquity the Kurds have lived from the north-west to the south-east of contemporary Turkey and Syria, and down to Iraq and Iran. If one of the two kings come from an area between Iraq and Iran, then the probability is very high the other king comes from an area between Turkey and Syria.

Iran, Turkey, and Syria

Syria today is suffering, which may be a fulfillment of Isaiah 17:1, “Behold, Damascus will cease to be a city and will become a heap of ruins.” At the same time, Turkey has grown in power and influence over the past years and currently enjoys rank among the top twenty economies in the world. “As both kings of the ram are part of the same beast, it’s only logical that they have something in common, which is their claim to power and the religion of Islam. And indeed. Turkey has become more Islamic and anti-democratic thanks to its President Erdoğan, whose stance makes clear Turkey will never become a member of the European Union. This will potentially lead Turkey to look for other allies, which Turkey is surely going to find.” 1

Iran is a Shiite country. But during a conference in 2014, President Erdoğan expressed all Muslims are brothers and the conference was meant to overcome the differences between the Sunnis and the Shiites. In April 2015, reporting on Erdoğan’s visit in Teheran, it was stated, “Iran and Turkey demonstrate Unity.”2

Looking at the geography between Turkey and Iran, we see two countries share a border, reminding us of the words from Daniel chapter eight, where prophecy states the Medio-Persian Empire of the ram is going to wage war against the north, south, and the west. North of this kingdom are Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and so on. South of this country lie Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Israel.

Waging War with the West

As the ram is going to wage war against the west, let’s consider what countries lie west of this kingdom. The map reveals Europe and extending to the whole west includes the United States of America. Keep in mind the Ottoman Empire laid siege on Vienna 1529 and 1683. The Ottoman Empire has also waged war to try and conquer Europe just as they conquered the Constantinople in 1453. The Islamic Medio-Persian kingdom is therefore going to attack the south, the north and the west. One side is not going to watch silently, but is going to defeat the ram according to the Bible. Could this defeating force include America? I think so.

Daniel 8:5-7 states that a male goat came from across the west, across the face of the whole earth, without touching the ground, who strikes the ram leaving the ram with no power to stand, and with no one to rescue the ram from the goat’s power. This goat is going to come from the west and fight the Medio-Persian ram very angry and with all its power, and is going to finally defeat the ram and its two kings, because the west is indeed going to be a lot stronger. And the fact that the goat is floating, not touching the ground, could probably represent the very strong air force that the west, especially the United States of America, have. “This is the reason why it is very important for Europe to maintain good relations with the United States, as it is very likely that we are going to need the United States for the goat of the west to defeat the ram in this war. Even the Turkish Foreign Minister said, ‘very soon Holy wars are soon to begin in Europe [March 16th, 2017]’”3

The common values Europe and America have stems from our Christian faith. We can all agree that terrible times lie ahead for mankind. However, as stated, the Bible does not intend to scare people, rather it intends to warn especially God’s people of what is to come in the future. Fulfillment of prophecies will happen before our eyes and with the knowledge of prophecies, we may be able to win over more people to Jesus Christ in these End Times before the Antichrist comes, according to Deuteronomy 4:30-31.
