Sonship of the Believer: Reconciled

Praise the Lord, child of God! I’m John Avanzini and welcome to Strengthen Your Walk! “Reconciled.” I’d like to talk to you about that subject: being reconciled through the death of Christ Jesus.

In 2 Corinthians 5:17-18 it says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away; all things are new. And now all things are of God who hath reconciled us to Him by Jesus Christ and hath given Him the ministry of reconciliation.”

Now think about this just a minute. That word “reconciled” talks about restoring relationship. We have not only been born again, and not only are new creatures in Christ Jesus, but the relationship was broken. When was it broken? It was broken all the way back in the Garden of Eden when our ancient ancestors Adam and Eve broke fellowship with God and it went on down through the years.

But now, in accepting Christ as your Savior, that fellowship is restored! You now have the ability to come and go from the presence of God and enjoy fellowship with Him. Colossians 2:13 states, “You were once dead because of your failure and your corrupt nature. But God made you alive with Christ when He forgave all your failures.”

Child of God, think about that: not just are you back in fellowship with God, but you don’t have to have a guilty conscience because of that sin situation and those things that have separated you from Him and those things that have been so embarrassing between you and Him. It’s out of your life now. It’s gone. Reconciliation has taken place. You now are back in fellowship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

And please know this: you’re not just back again without a past, but you’re given a file – a record – of what’s happened in your past. And it’s the record of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He dropped His record into your file because it says in 2 Corinthians 5:21, “For He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.”

Think about that! It’s not that you have an empty file, but dropped into that old file of sin, when the reconciliation took place, there was the file of Jesus Christ. And you are now the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, free to fellowship with the Lord and not have any guilty conscience at all about it. You can freely come and go from the throne room of grace and at any time have that fellowship with Him.

That’s such a good thing to know that not only are we saved, but we also are back in good fellowship with God. And with a clean record, the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus now stands as my record.

Bless you. We’ll meet again soon.
