Faith to End Your Drought

Faith to End Your Drought

Angus BuchanBy Angus Buchan4 Minutes

A few years ago, the western part of our beloved South Africa was facing a devastating drought. The Holy Spirit impressed upon me to go and call the people together to pray for rain. So I made an outrageous announcement in the local newspapers, telling everyone to bring their umbrellas to the prayer meeting, because it was going to rain.

In other words, I burned my bridges. The back door was no longer open, and there was no way out except to believe God for rain. I did not say I hoped it would rain, I said it positively was going to rain. You see, God answers the prayer of faith, but not the prayer of presumption or just “hoping so.”

The prayer meeting was organized within a couple of days, but people came by the thousands! There’s nothing like hardship to bring people together to pray — and the Lord answered our prayers.

After that day, God blessed the area tremendously, providing the second largest corn crop they’ve had in the last 30 years! The growing season started off as a disaster, but because of our day of prayer, God turned the tide.

Friend, if you’re facing some kind of drought in your life today, the Lord can turn the tide for you. Perhaps you’re not facing a lack of rain, but a drought of finances, joy, or favor. Whatever the situation may be, the same principles apply.

The Prayer of Faith

As a farmer, I learned long ago that although I can put seeds into the ground, only God can make them germinate and grow. It’s a matter of faith — as is everything in our lives.

James 1:5-8 instructs us to ask the Lord for wisdom, but then adds: “Let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”

James says we should ask in faith and not question. It’s not really faith if you’ve already formed a back-up plan in case the Lord doesn’t come through for you!

Thank Him in Advance

During more than 35 years of walking with God, I’ve learned an important principle about asking in faith: We should thank the Lord in advance for what He is going to do. Instead of being anxious, we will find God’s peace when we make our requests known to Him “with thanksgiving” (Philippians 4:6-7).

Here’s a simple formula for getting your prayers answered by God:

  • Find out His will for the circumstances you find yourself in (1 John 5:14-15).
  • Pray the prayer of faith, based on His will and His promises (Mark 11:22-24).
  • Go ahead and start thanking Him in advance for sending you the answer (1 Thessalonians 5:18).

When you follow these simple steps, you’ll see the Lord reveal His faithfulness. As things get darker and darker in these Last Days, God is looking for men and women who will believe Him, stand on His Word, and take bold steps of faith.

Go ahead and trust God—and get ready for your drought to end!

God answers the prayer of faith, but not the prayer of presumption or just hoping so.
