Examine Our Hearts Lord!

O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me.
Psalm 139:1

God knows every detail in your life, including, before you were born, and until you exchange your earthly body for your heavenly body. And because He knows you better than you know yourself, He knows what’s best for you. Father always knows best! For those who have ears, He is the Wise Whisperer.

You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I am far away (Psalm 139:2).

Our thoughts have power, what we focus on will be our path. Have you noticed your body craves what you think about and what you allow it to do? Once something is seen, you can’t unsee it, it is like a giant barn sign branded in your brain. Some people, even some Christians, dismiss nudity or inappropriate movies as just entertainment, but does God approve? We must be mindful what we allow ourselves to see and do. Even when everyone else gives it their stamp of approval.

So, letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace (Romans 8:6).

So, let’s check and renew our thoughts daily and commit them to God. What do you have to lose, I mean, besides eternity separated from God?

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect (Romans 12:2).

You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord (Psalm 139:4).

Our words have the power of life and death in them. Are we speaking life or something else?

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit (Proverbs 18:21).

God knows the good, bad, and ugly words rolling off our tongues before they are spoken, and He knows the motives and intentions behind those words. He knows if we meant them for evil or for good. Yet, during our worst outbursts, our most vile mean-spirited behavior, he remembers we are one of His children and quick to forgive, if we confess and repent of our wicked ways. Confession, accompanied by repentance, is good for detoxifying the mind. Better to confess those toxic thoughts to God, than to castigate another person.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).

You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessings on my head (Psalm 139:5).

It is a guarantee, God will come knocking on the door of your heart. As in all things, you control the door handle of your heart. Opening the door to God’s knock will bring blessings unimaginable! I am so thankful I opened the door to His love.

You made all my delicate inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so complex! Your workmanship is marvelous, how well I know it (Psalm 139:13-14).

How many times do we get down on ourselves and compare ourselves to others? How many times do we wish that our life was different or like so and so’s life? We need to get over ourselves and on to the purpose God has for us. Whether born into a God-fearing family, or an original Hell’s Angel, the choice to follow God is ultimately up to you, not your family. You can’t ride the coattails of your family’s faith. You must decide to follow God.

God knows the hardships you have been through, and he is waiting for you to fully commit your life to Him. Let’s stop throwing poor-me pity parties and start celebrating the joy of Jesus in the journey. He’s got you covered up with love!

You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day passed (Psalm 139:15-17).

Before she was even born, God knew my biological mother at the age of 16 was going to give me up for adoption. God saw the parents who would care for me as their own before I was even born. God knew I would be born with three holes in my heart, and he gave me a strong constitution to deal with it. He saw the surgeons performing surgery on my heart, twice, both before and after I was saved!

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths (Proverbs 3:5-6).

At a recent wedding my husband and I attended, the Pastor reminded the wedding couple the promises in the wedding vows are not performance-driven, but rather foundational, wrapped with love. Not a promise wrapped in some frilly bow, but an iron chain used to anchor giant ships in place, unmoved by the storms of life.

In 1 Corinthians 1:18-19 we read, For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.”

Let’s not try to outsmart God with logic and reasoning, salvation is the promise of God, for believers, not performance-driven, but powered by the blood of Jesus, in the shade of the cross.
