Breakthrough

Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them. But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia. – Daniel 10:12-13

Daniel gave himself to fasting for 21 days while he earnestly sought God for an understanding of the future destiny of the Jewish people. For three weeks he prayed and nothing happened. But then a marvelous, mighty, heavenly being came with the answer to his prayer. So powerful was the presence of this being that the other people with Daniel fled in terror, and he found himself bereft of physical strength. Terrifying as this experience was, Daniel knew the angel had been sent from God with the answer to his prayer.

There’s a vital principle to see here. Michael, the mighty archangel, was sent “the first day” Daniel started to pray. But he did not arrive until three weeks later, because he encountered satanic opposition on the way from God’s throne to Daniel’s presence on earth.

The opposition Michael encountered was not from human beings. No human being can withstand an angel like that. The opposition did not come from earth, nor was it from God’s Heaven. Instead, it occurred in some area between the Heaven of God and earth. In other words, the angel had to break through Satan’s kingdom in order to arrive with the message God had sent him with.

Daniel’s prayer had set the entire heavenly realm in motion. Not only did it set the angel of God on his way, but it also stirred up the angels of Satan in opposition. All the while, Daniel had to pray through. He had to hold on for 21 days before he got the answer.

Our Spiritual Weaponry

Thankfully, we have weapons that are spiritual rather than carnal, as Paul explains:

Though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God (2 Corinthians 10:3-5).

We don’t use bombs, tanks, or rifles to wage war against the enemy. Since we aren’t fighting persons with bodies, such weapons would be useless. But instead of those physical, material weapons, we’ve been given spiritual weapons to use for pulling down Satan’s strongholds.

So sometimes when you are praying and you don’t get an answer, it’s not because you are praying for the wrong thing or praying in the wrong way. In fact, it may be because you’re praying for the right thing and in the right way. You may just be facing opposition.

Don’t give up! Keep praying and persevering for your breakthrough. Jesus has equipped you with the weapons you need to defeat Satan and receive the answer to your prayer.
