Boldly Walking: What’s Your Next Move?

I’m Kim Crabill and I’m delighted to be sharing this time with you. One of the questions I’m asked many times is, “What is it that I’m supposed to do? What do I do when I don’t know what to do?” What a great question, because what I’ve learned – one of my mantras – is don’t make a move until you know the right move.

How do we know the right move? We have to go to God’s Word. Right?

I have come up with something I found in Jeremiah. I call it my four P’s to know what to do and I want to share that with you today. It is from Jeremiah 6:16. And it begins like this: “This is what the Lord says: ‘Stand at the crossroads … ask the ancient paths, ask where the good way is and then walk in it.” I’ve taken that Scripture and tried to figure out a way that I can remember it quickly. Maybe it will help you. Where it says “stand,” I may use the “p” word “pause.” Just stop everything. That’s one of the hardest things to do isn’t it? To stop. When we don’t know what to do, but God tells us just to stop, so we stop.

The next thing we’re told to do is to look. Look. To me that means “ponder.” Look at what’s going on around you. What is it that maybe is not being said? What is it that is obviously not being seen? Ponder the situation a little bit. Just be still and look around. Gather your information.

The third thing that’s in this Scripture that Jeremiah tells us to do is to “Ask where the good way is.” So we “pray.” We pray and we ask God for His wisdom. We ask Him what He would do? He’s already promised that He’ll guide us. He’s promised that He’s given us the wisdom. He’s promised us that if we call upon Him, He will answer us. So, we go into a process Jeremiah tells us.

What is the fourth “p”? Then, we “proceed.” So, Jeremiah’s telling us Pause, Ponder, Pray, and then Proceed. For so many years I had it backwards. I’d proceed and get myself into a mess and go “Oh no!” Then, I’d start to pray. But I’ve learned to strengthen my walk by stopping and doing it in alignment with how God would have us do it.

I hope that these four “P’s” help you today. When you’re thinking about what you need to do, don’t make a move until you know the right move. God will show you that move.
