A Memorial Day of Another Kind

Dear Friend,

As I stop to remember the men and women who’ve died while serving in our country’s armed forces, I am profoundly grateful. Freedom isn’t free. There is always a cost to pay, and these brave soldiers paid the ultimate price so that you and I can live in peace and freedom in this great land.

But this Memorial Day I also find myself thinking about another kind of memorial, one commemorating a sacrifice that brought me freedom in an even deeper way. Jesus said a memorial takes place every time we observe the Lord’s Supper and partake of the elements representing His body and blood.

Like the servicemen and women we honor today, Jesus fought a battle on our behalf, laying down His life on the cross to purchase our freedom from sin, shame, and death. And now we’re promised…

“If the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed!” – John 8:36

This Memorial Day, I pray God will remind you of the incredible sacrifice Jesus made on your behalf. Honor Him today and give Him thanks!

God bless you,
