Honour the Lord Through Your Work

In 1956, Martin Luther King, Jr., while giving a speech in Montgomery, Alabama, provided some wise insight on the value of hard work:

Whatever your life’s work is, do it well. … As one college president said, ‘A man should do his job so well that the living, the dead, and the unborn could do it no better.’ If it falls to your lot to be a street sweeper, sweep streets like Michelangelo painted pictures, like Shakespeare wrote poetry, like Beethoven composed music. …

Although enjoying and succeeding at what we do for a living is key to our mental health and happiness, we should heed Paul’s words in Colossians 3:23-24 that the fruits of our labour should always first honour our Lord:

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. (NIV)

This Labour Day, we invite you to join us in thankfulness for God’s provision and the opportunity to glorify His Holy name in everything we do.

God bless you,
